About
Rocketships Career Coaching Philosophy
There are many ambitious students in the STEM and business world that find it difficult to source career opportunity advice on emerging areas within industry. Many guidance councillors at educational institutions are not familiar with emerging and disruptive technologies and the opportunities that these create. Unfortunately, many students are given outdated advice and the best opportunity areas for a students passion and interest may be overlooked.

Rocketships provides high-performance students with an expanded perspective of emerging career opportunities via seasoned industry veterans. The brief coaching sessions are free to qualified students (or recent graduates). The industry veteran’s advice is provided simply as a charitable “giving back” to help students expand their career opportunity perspective and achieve their true career potential. The Win for the coach is helping others succeed based on guidance derived from their specific industry experience. The win for the student is an eye-opening discussion around exciting career opportunity areas that may go as far as to identify target companies and educational fine-tuning to enhance your employment eligibility.
A core part of Rocketships Coaching Philosophy is to help a student or recent grad identify and chase the High-Growth Jobs of the Future that meet their personal preferences. Figure 1 to the right shows the realm of possibility (all Possible Future Careers you can imagine), Plausible Futures (all strong potential current and future careers), Probable Futures (career opportunities based on a student’s current awareness), and Preferred Futures (career opportunities based on what you are passionate about and would like to do amongst all the Possible Career Futures). Having this expansive view of future career opportunities helps students better understand and target their future career stepping stones.

What is provided with the free coaching
The typical session will be 45 minutes to an hour and will discuss your current academic achievements, your current career ambitions/passion and will then expand into a discussion on the new realm of career possibilities. Based on your interests the discussion could get into greater details on:
-
Specific high-demand growth areas and actual jobs/role categories.
-
Additional studies recommended for you to fine-tune your pursuit of desired opportunities.
-
A shortlist of companies that would be looking for your specific skills
-
Coaching on how to best position your transferrable skills (and potential value) to these candidate companies.
What is not provided with the coaching
The coaching will not go as far as setting up introductory meetings with prospective employers. In our experience, employers want to see you sell yourself to the organization. The coaching will however help elevate your success with these conversations.
The coaching is for those with a real passion for excellence in a field. If a person is quite uncertain as to what their career ambitions are it is recommended to first meet with school guidance counsellors.
